Winthrop (John) statue is dedicated.

Artist: Richard Greenough. It is installed initially in Scollay Square. A bronze replica of the marble statue and installed in the U.S. Capitol in 1873, it is moved to accommodate construction of subway lines to the corner of Court and Tremont Street in 1898. It is moved again to the grounds of the First Church on Marlborough Street in 1903. Damaged by a fire in 1968, the statue is restored in 1975.
